Broken Hill / Silverton to South Australia

So much to do in this area it's hard to know where to start. The first named Heritage town and where BHP came to be many many years ago. So much history , beautiful old buildings especially in Silverton.

We found a great campsite in Silverton . Finding a shady spot for the swags, near a camp kitchen and amenities block but also a shaded playground. Our first introduction to the Outback Flies!!

. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset at Mundi Mundi lookout. Warning there's a photo overload coming below!

The starry sky was out of this world. Unfortunately photos just don't do it justice at all.

The Royal Flying Doctors tour at the working base was fantastic , perhaps a highlight for Brad and I. All of us enjoyed learning more about this amazing service. The services provided to those in the outback is not only life saving in emergency situations but also about primary health including nurse, GP and dental clinics as well as a Jane McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse .

We enjoyed sitting in on a kindergarten lesson with School of the Air. Technology now allows kids to see their teachers ,follow what the teacher has on screen and from outback farms the teacher can view what the students are doing.  A great opportunity for kids in geographic isolation. Think Joshua and Mitchell were a little concerned (jealous maybe) that they only had 30 mins of school a day . It took some time for them to realise that the kids have a whole box of school work delivered for them to complete.

An important visit for Mitch was the Pro Hart gallery. Mitch's class this year is named after Pro Hart and he has been learning about him during Term 1 .
Mitch says, It was interesting. I like his studio set up and especially the canon he used for his paintings. He used to work in a mine before painting and loved the Rolls Royce car. He even turned one into a painting.

We had grand plans to get lots in, in the 2.5 days we intended to be in the area , but no it's been cut short with fridge/battery problems that we couldn't get fixed in Broken Hill. It could be that the Aldi coffee machine caused the problem but until we find the cause it's just speculation! We've packed up early and are back on the road heading to a repairer in Port Augusta. At least it's on the way!

We've crossed the border and now into South Australia. State /Territory number 2 out of 5 for this trip.
