Port Augusta to Coober Pedy

We made it to Coober Pedy, over 2000km from home.

We are pleased to say that our fridge appears to be working and charging well while driving. So with that we didn't need to see the repairer in Port Augusta but took the opportunity to restock supplies and let the boys be boys with all the facilities the caravan park had to offer.

So we set off to Coober Pedy, a day ahead of schedule. The boys are traveling well. Mitch and Xavier played and coloured while Josh slept most of the way as he's not  feeling too well.

Tonight we've booked ourselves into an underground motel for the night. Such an interesting experience!! The temperature is much cooler than outside but without windows there's not a lot of air flow. A fan in the room helps.

This is opal inside a wall in our room.

The drive today (& previous days!) was mostly a straight highway with open plains, with some interesting sites along the way.  There's even a shared road / emergency air strip for RFDS.(lucky the were no emergencies at that time!)

Stopping in at Woomera we enjoyed exploring the displays of missiles and rockets that have been launched from the area.

Also learning more about Len Beadell, the man who lead the construction of the 'highways' we are about to emark on. A lovable larakin who spent 8 years in the area carving 'highways ' in the desert.

But wow what took our breathaway was this -  the salt lakes along the way. Stopping for lunch at this amazing spot, Lake Hart.

Tomorrow we explore Coober Pedy before meeting up with our group,  getting ready to Go bush!
