Week 3 North West Tassie

Day 14 12th January to Burnie
Starting the day with a swim and play at the beach at the Bay of Fires before the long drive up to the top of Tassie from the East.

We stopped at a Chocolate factory but mainly just drove. Setting up camp in a Caravan Park in Burnie to prepare to go out bush. The park had an indoor pool so of course we had to check it.

Day 15 13th January Burnie, Stanley and Boat Harbour Beach
Enjoying a day without packing up, we left camp and headed to Stanley to ride the chair lift up/down the Nut. Beautiful ocean, town, and farm views at a 360 degree angle. Boys enjoyed the chair lift, Xavier particularly as it was his first experience.
Xavier wanted his words written
"My favourite part was going on the ski that was my first time and it was really fun. "

Boat Harbour beach was next. What a top afternoon. A playground right on the beach, in sight of a cafe selling beer and coffee. The water calm enough that all boys could have a play in the waves. Building sand castles, playing 'sand catch' ( as Xavier named it) and listening to a guy playing the guitar. A great afternoon , we could have stayed stayed for hours. Unfortunately though we set off to do the last minute preparations for our 4WD trip and enjoy a roast pork cooked on the baby Q.

Day 16 - 20 14th - 18th January
We thoroughly enjoyed the Tasmanian Offroad Adventure 4WD Tag-a-long Tour exploring the Wild West Coast of Tassie. So much so, I'll do a separate blog post.

Day 21 19th January
Our last day in Tassie.  We explored some coastal towns including  Penguin.

We also  stopped in at some foodie farms /tasting including Tasmanian Pickled Onion, Cherry Farm and a Strawberry Farm to pick your own strawberries. Very delicious!

Spoiling ourselves with an Ocean View Cabin in Devonport we enjoyed the location,  wandering along the beach as the sunset.

Day 21 20th January- our 12th Wedding Anniversary.
Setting off early we leave Tasmania on board the Spirit of Tasmania.  It really has been a fantastic holiday.  We can see why people spend months exploring. 3 weeks wasn't enough to see the whole of what Tassie has to offer but certainly gave us a taste of the fabulous coast, historic towns, farmland and tasty food ,as well as some pretty challenging but very satisfying 4WD tracks.  Tassie is most definitely catered for the camper,  particularly self contained campers with plenty of free camps on offer. Highly recommend Tassie as a holiday, there really is something for everyone.
