Week 1 Part 2 Port Arthur, Hobart and heading South. 3/1- 6/1

Day 5 3/1/19 to Seven Mile Beach via Port Arthur and Tasman NP
An early start, with a big drive we headed to Port Arthur. Well worth the visit! A guided walking tour gave us some history and stories to the people who onced lived there. A hard life for the convicts, working 12 hour days, 7 days a week. Only day off Christmas day. A tough life of physical torture in the form of lashes, by a fellow convict until the Doctor would say they  could not bear anymore. If the whole sentence not completed, the convict would go to hospital to recover then once recovered back to complete the punishment. A huge area , the prison spanded the whole of the area, from Port to Eaglehawk neck. The prisoners could not escape easily due to wearing shackles on their feet.   Included in the entry is also a harbour cruise with commentry, pointing out the boys prison where boys as young as 9 were sent from the UK. The grounds are immaculate and the buildings in remarkable restored condition. In the afternoon we watched 3x short plays of stories of convicts, and the other people who worked such as the Commandare and others. Interesting stories, they held the boys attention so much so we watched them all at the boys request.

A very quick stop at Tasman NP, to view the Tasman Arch and the Blowhole. Unfortunately the blowhole was not performing but the Natural Arch was beautiful.

Moving onto Seven Mile Beach, our home for the next 3 nights. A beautiful sunset with pink tinge to the water.

Day 6 4/1/19 Seven Mile Beach/ Sixers v Hurricanes BBL game.
A quiet beach day planned well for Hobarts hottest day, around 34 deg. Spent the morning at the beach before heading into town for a drive.

At night we enjoyed being in the minority as Sixers fans at Blundstone Stadium. Obviously they don't get many opponents supporters as we were quite the novelty in our Sixers jerseys. A close game in the end, Sixers loosing on the second last ball.

Day 7 5/1/19  Exploring Hobart.
Our visit timed for the Salamanca Market's, we enjoyed strolling through the markets, so many people it was hard to move at times. Lots of variety , fresh food, little tasters, handmade goods and souvenirs. I enjoyed my curried scallop pie!

Next Harbourfront and a really interesting visit to Mawson's Replica Hut. Fascinating adventures of brave men in testing conditions.

Tasmania Mueseum displayed an interesting exhibition on Antartica , the wildlife, the expeditions and the weather. Very interesting.

Enjoying seafood and a drink on the harbour, a great way to finish a big day.

Day 8 6/1/19
Hobart, Tahune to Finns Beach.

Back to the Tasmania Mueseum for a dinosaur exhibition. The boys loved the moving / roaring dinosaurs and the hands on learning about dinosaurs.

Moving onto to Tahune, to the Air walk. Josh, Mitch, Brad and I glided through the air, across the river on the Air Glider. A nice view, and the glide back felt like you were a bird in the sky. Brad, Mitch and I loved it, Josh was not so sure. Xavier was not happy about missing out.

The air walk was pretty special, walking amongst the tree tops, swaying with the breeze! Finishing our visit with the swinging bridges walk an 1 hour round trip, crossing the river on swinging bridges.

Moving onto to our camp site, at Finns Beach, a free camp in Southern Tasmania. Making most of the late sunset we were set up in camp around 7pm with enough time to play some cricket and have our first camp fire for our holiday.
